Tunisia – Civil Protection Brigade Established in El Mazzouna

A civil protection brigade was deployed Saturday to El Mazouna, in the Sidi Bouzid governorate, to bring emergency services closer to residents. Meanwhile, municipal authorities removed the remaining wall of the Mazouna High School, part of which collapsed earlier this week, killing three students and wounding two others.

The regional director of civil protection in Sidi Bouzid, Brigadier General Mourad Al-Seghir, told TAP that, in coordination with local and regional authorities, a building belonging to the local municipality was checked, upgraded, and equipped with civil protection resources and mechanisms to act as the headquarters of the aforementioned unit, by the urgent decisions taken by President Kais Saied during his visit to El Mazouna yesterday, Friday.

For his part, the Secretary General of the El Mazzouna Municipality, Habib Rawaq, told TAP that the remaining section of the Mazouna Secondary School wall was demolished today to eliminate the danger, noting that yesterday’s demolition operations included the wall of Mazouna Primary School and that the wall of Ibn Hazm Preparatory School was also scheduled to be demolished.

Rawaq clarified that the decision to demolish walls and buildings at risk of collapse in educational institutions is taken by the Regional Education Delegation in coordination with the Ministry of Education, and the municipality implements it with its own mechanisms, he stated.
