Tunisia- CMR looks at success of harvest and cereal collection campaign

Prime Minister Ahmed El Hachani oversaw a ministerial council meeting, Monday, at Government Palace in Kasbah, to examine the success of the 2023-2024 grain harvest and collection campaign, the stock adjustment program for ware potatoes titled Quarterly Campaign 2024, and the preparation for the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign. The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Interior, Khaled Ennouri, the Minister of Finance, Sihem Boughdiri Namsia, the Minister of Commerce and Export Development, Kalthoum ben Rejab Guazah, and the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Abdel Moneim Belaati.

Opening the session, Hachani stressed that agriculture is the cornerstone of food security and a matter of state sovereignty. He underlined the necessity to provide all required conditions, particularly logistical ones, to guarantee the successful harvest and collection of grain. He also emphasised the significance of the potato stock adjustment program for consumption and the careful preparation for the upcoming agricultural season.

The Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries gave a detailed report. After discussion and deliberation, the session decided to keep the same price for the acceptance of cereals for the 2023 season. Additionally, it was decided to approve the granting of an exceptional incentive subsidy for the 2024 campaign.

The session likewise approved a program to create an adjustment stock of potatoes for the 2024 season. This program aims to protect producers from price deterioration, maintain the balance of the potato market, reduce the quantities supplied, and preserve the purchasing power of consumers.
