The National Coordination for the Defence of Human Rights and Liberties urged the authorities not to employ or use the political crisis to limit rights and liberties.
This request comes after a noticeable increase in the the “rise in the campaigns of slander and provocation to violence against those who hold a contrary opinion, led by prominent parties who oppose human rights.
In a declaration approved by the President of the National Coordination and a number of national associations and organisations, the coordination called on the Public Prosecutor to act on against those who promote violence and hatred.
The National Coordination additionally requested for granting protection to the victims of these campaigns, advising against the gravity of the general environment prevailing in the country.
The statement was signed by 12 associations and organisations, namely, the League of Human Rights (LTDH), the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), the Organisation against Torture (OCTT) and the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT).
