Tunisia-Coronavirus: Health condition of the first Omicron patient in Tunisia

The first case of infection by the new variant Omicron was recorded Friday in Tunisia.

It concerns a young man coming from a South African country. He arrived on a flight from Istanbul (Turkey).

In a statement to TAP, Hechmi Louzir, director of the Institut Pasteur, said that the case was confirmed after the result of the test carried out at the institute’s laboratory.

A lockdown has been imposed systematically on the infected person, the same source said. The infected case appears to be in good condition and has no signs of infection, Louzir added, recalling that a rapid test was carried out on his arrival and confirmed his infection with the coronavirus.

Travellers on the same flight as the infected person are not affected by the mandatory lockdown as they are vaccinated and the rapid tests performed were negative, Louzir said.
