Tunis has begun manufacturing anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine locally, reported France 24.
In a special report, the light was shed on laboratory working non-stop to produce drugs to combat the virus. The lab has shifted its focus on manufacturing hydroxychloroquine. Thinking about producing the drug begun before the pandemic, said Deputy director-general of laboratories Kais Haji. Stocks of materials were build to speed up the manufacturing. Moreover, a fist batch was already made it will be provided once the ministry gives the green light with an order placed in raw material to avoid a shortage, adds the report.
Tunisia has also seen its debate on the use of the drug however, many physicians are in favour of using it under certain conditions.
Agnes Hamzaoui a pneumology doctor at Abderrahmen Mami hospital affirmed that positive results have been recorded, adding that patients can be monitored for any side effects.
