Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Independent MP Hatem Mliki stressed the significance of respecting the independence of the judiciary. Remarking on the last speech of the President of the Republic Kais Saied, Mliki said that being one of the nominees in the electoral race, the Head of State should not have exercised pressure on the judiciary to decide the case of the report of the Court of Auditors.
Acknowledging that there were several tries to undermine the independence of the judiciary, Mliki called on judges to be more efficient in adjudicating cases faster and protecting citizens’ rights.
He, in the same vein, called for improving the working circumstances of magistrates. “There are attempts to involve the judiciary in political conflicts, particularly with regard to election results,” he said, calling for avoiding escalation. Mliki further called for not involving the judiciary and security forces in political conflicts.
