Tunisia-Covid: Is the new JN1 mutant dangerous?

The president of the vaccination committee and member of the scientific committee to combat the spread of the coronavirus, Riyad Daghfous, stated, this Thursday, December 21, 2023, that the new mutant has spread since last summer in several countries, such as America, Canada, some European countries, and Asia.

It is a mutant of the Omicron strain, revealing that its spread in recent times coincided with cold weather and the start of the spread of the influenza virus.

He added that the mutant does not pose a risk and its symptoms are similar to those of the rest of the variants. Even if the number of cases increases in certain countries, the situation cannot be described as “vague,” adding: “The situation in Tunisia does not require a return to wearing a mask, but caution remains,” reports a radio.
