COVID-19 updates:

Infections and deaths are continuing to increase in Tunisia as the death tally surpassed 12,000, Health authorities reported 1397 new cases and 61  deaths, bringing the death and infection tally to 12.032 and 329.925 respectively.

Transport strike cancelled

The General Transport Federation announced the cancellation of the transport strike which was programmed for tomorrow, May 20, 2021.This sectoral strike involves land, sea and air transport.

Engineers threaten to deprive Tunisians of electricity

 The dean of engineers Kamel Sahnoun ensured on Wednesday that the strike led by engineers in public institutions is legitimate, adding that the union will not permit its members to be harmed. Sahnoun stated there is a discussion of removing engineers from the Sousse power plant, and no longer maintaining it. This will deprive a good part of Tunisians of electricity, particularly at the time of peak consumption in summer.

Issue of four new postage stamps

A series of four postage stamps devoted to a sample of works of street art in Tunisia will be issued by the Tunisian Post.The issuance of these stamps intends to raise awareness of street art in Tunisia as an artistic current and an independent mode of expression .

Earthquake strikes Skhira 

The seismic stations of the National Institute of Meteorology announced that a 3-degree earthquake has hit Skhira, Sfax.

President Kais Saied calls for debt relief for poor nations

Speaking at the sidelines of his participation in the financing summit of African economies in Paris, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied called for the removal of the debts of poor countries or at least to decrease them significantly.

The head of state further emphasised the necessity to lift restrictions on the manufacture of vaccines to benefit all countries.

Hassouna Nasfi proposes Ichraf Chebil as head of government

Speaking on national radio today, the head of the Reform parliamentary bloc Hassouna Nassfi declared that his bloc had proposed First Lady Ichraf Chebil as head of government.

Nasfi interpreted this choice by the desire to secure better harmony between the two heads of the executive.

President Kais Saied: Failure to recognize the rights of the Palestinians, a high treason

In an interview with France 24, the president of the republic Kais Saied addressed the situation in Palestine.“We are in the process of deploying everything at the UN to reach a ceasefire,” he remarked.

Asked about his position of the Palestinian cause, he stated that “not to recognize the rights of the Palestinians is considered a high treason”.

In the same interview, the head of the state pointed out that their intentions to sabotage preparations for the Francophonie summit programmed for next November in Tunisia. he stated that “some want to sabotage this summit for known political ends”.

Ali Kooli: Financial situation is very critical

Speaking to Mosaique FM, finance minister Ali Kooli said that the financial situation is very critical,We are in debt and economic specialists keep saying that the country is on the brink of bankruptcy, which makes the situation even worse since other countries no longer want to grant us loans for fear of not being repaid, he added.

Ezzeddine Saïdane:Financial revenue strike severely harms the economy, the image and the credibility of the nation

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique,economic expert Ezzeddine Saïdane said that the allout from the strike carried by financial revenue officers will be extremely serious.

Mr Saidane added that in addition to these fallouts, the most severe is damaging the image of the nation at this critical time when it is applying for a loan ,since this strike shows that the administration is incapable of managing the country and its administrations.
