The National Institute of Meteorology revealed that the process of monitoring the crescent for the start of the new Hijri year 1446 AH will take place after sunset on Friday, July 5, 2024 – corresponding to 29 Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH.
The institute added that, according to astronomical data, the crescent of the lunar month Muharram 1446 AH will not be observable in all parts of the world after sunset on Friday, July 5, 2024, including all Arab and Islamic countries. The crescent cannot be seen on Friday because the conjunction (the birth of the crescent) happens after sunset on Friday, July 5, in all these countries, at 11:57 p.m. (local time).
Observation of the crescent of the lunar month Muharram 1446 AH will hence be possible on Saturday, July 6, from 12:32 p.m. local time, from East Asia.
Hence, the probable date of the Hijri New Year will be Sunday, July 7.
