Tunisia: Date of observation of Ramadan ‘s lunar crescent

The National Institute of Meteorology (INM) has confirmed that the Tunisian sky, along with that of the majority of Arab and Islamic nations, will witness the sighting of the lunar crescent marking the start of the holy month of Ramadan after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024. This important observation is aligned with the central conjunction between the sun and the moon, which is expected to occur at 10 a.m. local time in Tunis on the same day.

The Ramadan crescent will be visible across all Arab and Islamic countries, including Tunisia, where the moon’s visibility after sunset on March 10 will last for about 18 minutes, extending up to a maximum of 23 minutes in Dakar.

Astronomical data shows that the Ramadan crescent can be observed worldwide after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024, which corresponds to 29 Chaabane 1445 AH. The observation window starts at 11:15 p.m. Tunisian local time, starting from central Tunisia, extending through the Gulf of Mexico, and reaching north-central South America, before gradually moving westward.
