Tunisia – Date of second round of local elections

ISIE member Belgacem Ayachi stated that the second round of municipal elections will take place in mid-February, revealing that the body will disclose the final results of the first round of municipal elections before the end of January 2024.

He clarified in a statement to the TAP agency: “The candidates who did not get the absolute majority of votes in today’s ballot will partake in the second round of elections, which should take place in mid-February. 2024”. He specified that the body “will designate the presidents of local councils, from among the elected officials having obtained the greatest number of votes, and will occupy this position for a period of 3 months”.

He revealed that a draw will be organized at the level of each local council to select from among all members, including the president, the one who will represent them on the regional council, and that the process will be repeated once every three months.
