Tunisia-Deans and professors of law condemn the dissolution of the CSM

Several deans of law faculties and professors have signed a petition to voice their refusal of the dissolution of the Superior Council of the Judiciary and to call on the President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, to review his decision. The signatories revealed that the judiciary certainly requires comprehensive and profound reform, but they reject the unilateral approach taken by the Head of State, through decrees and provisions, in this exceptional period.

They expressed their devotion to the principles of the rule of law and to the values of the republican and democratic regime, which are based on the separation of powers, equality, freedom and independence of the judiciary. The signatories correspondingly expressed their refusal of the decision of the President of the Republic to dissolve the CSM, viewing this as a severe attack on the principle of the separation of powers.

They also condemned the announcement of this decision from the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and the closure of the headquarters of the council without counting on a legal and official text. They also called for a radical, inclusive and comprehensive reform of the judicial system.
