Ali Chaouh was born in 1948 in Bou Arada, in the governorate of Siliana, his political rise began after Ben Ali came to power in 1987 and after holding several positions of responsibility, he joined the government for the first time in 1992 as state secretary for public health, then held a number of ministerial portfolios, those of equipment, housing, interior and social affairs.
