Tunisia: Demand for “Criminalizing Normalization” Resurfaces Again (Photos)

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the local labor union in Siliana, Takelsa, and Menzel Bouzelfa organized a peaceful protest through the streets of Siliana, culminating at the union’s headquarters. The march witnessed participation from various civil society groups and students, showing support for the Palestinian cause.

Participants raised Tunisian and Palestinian flags, as well as Palestinian resistance banners, chanting slogans calling for the criminalization of normalization with Israel. They also condemned the ongoing attacks on Gaza’s residents, especially the indiscriminate airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military. Sami Qaiba, Secretary-General of the local labor union, confirmed these details to the “Tunisian Digital” correspondent.

In a similar show of solidarity, a group of lawyers held a march and demonstration in front of the First Instance Court in Beja earlier on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. They expressed their outrage at the genocide being carried out against the Palestinian people in Gaza, raising slogans such as “Resistance, resistance, no peace, no compromise” and “The people demand the criminalization of normalization.”

Nahla Al-Arfaoui, a representative of the lawyers, explained to the “Tunisie Numérique” correspondent that this protest was in response to the recent attacks on Gaza, continuing their demand for the Tunisian government to criminalize normalization with Israel.

These actions reflect the ongoing public commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and resisting any form of normalization with Israel, aligning with Tunisia’s historic stance on the Palestinian cause.
