Tunisia-Democratic Current denounces the smear campaign led by Kais Saied against Ghazi Chaouachi

After a meeting of its national council held on October 23 and 24, 2021, the Democratic Current addressed its evaluation of the general situation in the nation after the issuance of Decree 117. The Democratic Current has, in this capacity, called on the President of the Republic Kais Saied to set a deadline for exceptional measures and to form a clear vision to determine the imminent danger in the country and the mechanisms that can counter it.

It, therefore, called on the Nejla Bouden government to rise from the state of emergency with the least social, economic, financial and health damage.

The party consequently denied any amendment of the Constitution far from the mechanisms mentioned in the constitutional texts of 2014,

The party said that the amendment of the electoral system, including the Electoral Code, should be fulfilled within the framework of a national dialogue including experts and political and civil parties.

The Democratic Current additionally called for further strengthening the independence of the judiciary by highlighting the significant financial, logistical, human and technical resources. “The urgent reforms of the judicial system entail the strengthening of the role of the General Inspectorate under the Ministry of Justice.

The Democratic Current called for the urgent opening of cases of suspicion of corruption in relationship with certain judges as well as the opening of the headquarters of the INLUCC, ”the same statement read.

The party condemned the smear campaign carried out by President Kais Saied against party secretary-general Ghazi Chaouachi without any legal basis.
