Tunisia-Dismantling of a trafficking network for archaeological Artifacts

The research and investigation brigade of the district of the National Guard of Fouchana demolished, on the evening of Friday, a network concentrated in the excavations and the trafficking of archaeological Artifacts on Saturday according to a statement by the spokesperson of the National Guard. This operation was conducted in coordination with the Nabeul research and investigation brigade, specifies the same source.

The operation ended in the seizure of two Hebrew manuscripts, each 10 meters long, located in a wooden case engraved in Hebrew.
According to the same source, the first examinations revealed that these are unpublished manuscripts whose historical period and archaeological value will be defined in coordination with the National Heritage Institute (INP).

Legal proceedings were initiated following which the manuscripts were found in the El Borj Sidi Achour region in Nabeul, the same source indicates, adding that a police operation was carried out in a house where two people were arrested and placed in custody.

A third person is wanted for the same case which was brought to court for “archaeological excavation without authorization and trafficking in archaeological pieces”.
