Tunisia-Dismissal of 57 magistrates: 4 former Presidents of the Bar reject Decree-Law No. 35

4 former presidents of the bar have voiced their dissatisfaction with decree-law n°35 relating to the dismissal of 57 judges, indicating that this decision violates the rights, freedoms and the principle of the separation of powers.

Bechir Essid, Abderrazzek Kilani, Chawki Tabib and Amer Meherzi called on the authorities concerned to rethink this decision and permit the judges to defend themselves.

They likewise expressed their solidarity with the magistrates who organized demonstrations to defend the independence of the judiciary, denouncing, in the same vein, the appearance of attorneys before the military tribunal.

“The ban on practising the profession of lawyer is a dangerous precedent,” reads the same press release.
