The Ghriba pilgrimage programmed for May 7 in Djerba ) will be dropped over the global health crisis linked to the COVID -19 pandemic, organising committee president Perez Trabelsi announced in a statement to the TAP.
Trabelsi said “it was not a simple decision to make” recognising the spiritual and symbolic dimension of the pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage of Ghriba is an annual event which displays the values of tolerance and fraternity in Tunisia. Its successful holding has always been a positive indicator of the tourist season, Trabelsi added.
This is the second cancellation in Ghriba’s history as the pilgrimage was called off in 2011 when the Tunisian Revolution broke out .
“What matters today is to fight against this pandemic, ” Trabelsi said.
