Tunisia – Djerba: One dead and one missing in sinking of leisure boat

A 52-year-old man, director of a travel agency in Djerba, and his friend, a 44-year-old, foreign worker, undertook, yesterday afternoon, Saturday, April 20, nearly one o’clock in the afternoon, an outing fishing on a boat departing the coast of the Sakia area in Midoun, Djerba, and we lost contact with them.

According to what was confirmed by a source from the Maritime Guard, the search for the boat was launched yesterday evening by the floating units of the Maritime Guard region to the south, but the poor weather conditions and strong winds increased the difficulty of the search operation, which was strengthened today with an aerial search by helicopter.

Today, a source from the Maritime Guard reported that the body of one of those missing in the boat sinking was found, following the joint operation between the National Army helicopter and the patrol units floating in the Marine Guard region in the south.

The body was discovered on the beach in the Sidi El Hachani area in Houmt Souk, Djerba, revealing that the search for the second missing person is still underway.
