Tunisia – Eight years in prison for Moncef Marzouki

The Criminal Chamber at the Court of First Instance of Tunis 1, today convicted, in absentia, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki, former provisional president of the Republic, to eight years in jail.

The court spokesperson explained that this case is related to Marzouki’s statements on social networks.

A judicial inquiry had been opened against him for the charge of “attempt to overthrow power, incitement of citizens to raise arms against each other and to call for disorder, murder or pillage on the territory national “.
