Tunisia-El Kram: Inauguration of a floating photovoltaic power plant

The floating experimental photovoltaic power plant at Lake Tunis was inaugurated on Saturday, June 25, 2022. With a capacity of 200 kilowatts, this plant covers an area of ​​2,500 square meters. It is assessed to be capable of generating 256 megawatts per year.

Industry Minister Neila Gonji Nouira declared the experimental plant is the first of its sort in Africa and the Arab world. Work on its construction began on September 22, 2021 and it will assist to reduce around 120 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

She added that the construction of this plant is part of the national energy strategy and seeks to expand renewable energy sources to reach 35% by 2030. The station was built following an accord signed between the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) and the French company Qair international, on July 9, 2020.
