Tunisia – Ennahdha: Abdellatif Mekki appointed vice president of the party

Following a heated and marathon meeting, the executive board of Ennahdha was completed.

The founding of this new executive office is significant because it aided to overcome the crisis sparked last year by Ghannouchi when he was set to run for an additional term at the head of the party.

The designated office will supervise preparations for the next congress which will see the election of the movement’s next president.

In the meantime, and to give more appeasement in the movement, after the storm of last year, it was voted to appoint Abdellatif Mekki, one of the main opposition figures to Ghannouchi and his clan, to the post of vice president of the party in charge of relations with national organizations.
