Tunisia-Ennahdha calls on Kaïs Saïed to reverse his decisions

Meeting urgently yesterday, Monday, July 26, 2021, Ennahdha’s executive office issued a press release to declare its positions concerning the recent decisions of the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïd. Ennahdha consequently considers that the exceptional measures declared by the president are unconstitutional and represent a strike against the constitution and the institutions, in particular those linked to the freezing of parliamentary activity and the monopoly of all powers without a constitutional control body.

The Islamist party maintains that all parties, organizations and specialists have clicked on this point and hence calls on the Head of State to retract and approach the challenges and difficulties facing the nation within the constitutional and legal framework and in line with the democratic choice adopted by Tunisia with the necessity to resume the work of the House of People’s Representatives as the original democratically elected authority.

Ennahdha calls on the political and civil organization to increase discussions on recent developments in the country in order to protect democratic gains and return as quickly as possible to constitutional conditions and to the natural and legal functioning of the institutions of the State. It likewise praised the military and security institution and reiterated its call for the need to keep it far away from political disputes and rivalries.

Ennahdha warned of the threat of violent and exclusionary speeches and their consequences, denounced all abuses and called for the prosecution of their perpetrators. The Islamist party subsequently called on all Tunisians to unity and to face all calls for sedition and civil war
