Tunisia – Ennahdha executives and magistrates implicated in political assassinations

The Secretary General of the Popular Movement, Zouhair Hamdi, revealed that the defence team of the martyr Mohamed Brahmi will travel tomorrow, Friday, to the headquarters of the anti-terrorism judicial pole to approve the decision to end the investigation related to the file of former judge Bechir Akremi.

Hamdi added, on the sidelines of a press conference organized today, Thursday, by the Popular Current Party at its headquarters in Tunis, on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the assassination of the former Secretary General of the party, Mohamed Brahmi, that Akremi is accused of concealing terrorists and partaking in terrorist crimes resulting in political assassinations. He emphasised that on July 22, the inquiry into the complaint filed against Akremi was concluded, and the gravity of the accusations against him and his involvement in the assassination case became clear. Akremi is alleged to have been implicated in the process of concealing facts and assisting in escaping punishment.

Hamdi likewise recalled the conclusion of the research conducted by the judiciary to fight terrorism in the so-called secret apparatus case of the Ennahda movement on July 14. He indicated that the investigation had proven the existence of a relationship between leaders of the Ennahda movement and members of Ansar al-Sharia, security officials, and people from the private secret apparatus of the Ennahda movement.

He appreciated this progress, describing it as “extremely important in the judicial process of the case of political assassinations after all the pressures previously exerted by the Ennahda movement and its allies to avoid accountability and guarantee impunity.”

The Secretary General of the Popular Movement renewed his party’s dedication and insistence “to reveal the whole truth about the assassination of the former leader of the party, Mohamed Brahmi, and all political and terrorist assassinations, and to hold responsible and punish all those involved, whether through instigation, planning, financing, or implementation.
