Ennahdha put forward the name of its leader Rached Ghannouchi as a potential candidate to head the next parliament.
“The party Shura Council has decided to nominate Rached Ghannouchi as parliament speaker,” Chairman of the Shura Council Abdelkrim Harouni said on Sunday.
“It also displays the movement’s interest in parliament, source of legislation, reforms and decisions on the management of government and various state apparatuses,” he added.
Ennahdha will be the largest party but with only 52 of 217 seats, requiring it to negotiate to form a government.
