Tunisia-EU must stop supporting NGOs that cooperate with migration networks

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated the European Union must cease supporting non-governmental organizations that collaborate with smuggling networks and facilitate irregular migration operations, in exchange for the allocation of funds assigned to these organizations to North Africa, to help countries deal with this phenomenon.

He added at the end of his meeting, today Monday, April 29, 2024, with the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, that the second change that must happen in Brussels is the necessity to abandon the diktats of the countries of North Africa and to restore ties between them and the European Union within the framework of mutual respect.

He emphasised that “when Europe defends itself against illegal immigration, it must support the authorities of North African countries to implement the law, and Tunisia has a particular role in this issue,” calling for European Union not to meddle in the internal politics of Tunisia and not to exert pressure which leads to instability In which.

He declared: “In a policy of cooperation between peers, we must assist Tunisia in its fight against immigration and support its economic development.”
