Tunisia-EU ready to strengthen its partnership with Tunisia

The European Union (EU) is ready to strengthen its partnership with Tunisia on both economic and logistical levels, announced Thursday, EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi. I

n a telephone conversation on Thursday with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi, the European official embraced the “accelerated” movement of national deliberations on financial planning and the strategic priorities of the partnership for the period 2021-2027.

Quoted in a statement by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Commissioner asserted hope that these consultations will set foundations for a firm partnership between the European Union and Tunisia in order to expand cooperation after the COVID-19.

The official also hailed the “excellent” level reached by bilateral cooperation, communicating readiness to make a visit to Tunisia to meet all the circumstances for success in the next bilateral events.

For his part, the Foreign Affairs Minister welcomed the support given by the European Union to Tunisia, especially during the first wave of coronavirus, referring, in this regard, to the UN Covax initiative which should enable access and equitable distribution of vaccines. “Relations between Tunisia and the European Union should further develop within the framework of a new approach that takes into account the new challenges and expectations of future generations,” he said. According to the Minister, Tunisia started national consultations on financial planning and strategic partnership priorities for the period 2021-2027.
