Tunisia-Exclusive: Ghannouchi forced to step down and is paving the way to Ali Laarayedh to lead Ennahdha

It seems that the storm that shook the”blue temple” in Montplaisir for several months is calming down.

Disputes led to a division in the ranks of Ennahdha supporters and its ruling class due to Rached Ghannouchi tenacity in staying in his post despite internal rules which he deems as personal property.

According to the latest news emanating from Montplaisir, the Sheikh has finally Stepped down, in the face of the rigidity of his numerous critics, and it appears that he has returned to his senses and is now accepting to step down as part of an arrangement between the various “warring” parties in the internal struggle of Ennahda.

The new agreements agreed on the following provisions:

  • Postponement of Ennahda congress for two years
  • Rached Ghannouchi will run for the party nor the next presidential elections
  • He will stay a nominal head of the party, but he will no longer direct anything directly.
  • Ali Laarayedh and Noureddine Bhiri appointed as vice presidents

It appears that Laarayedh is the new leading man and he is in the process of choosing members of the new executive office . It seems that the majority of party leaders consented to this agreement given that Laarayedh is acknowledged as a consensual figure and is respected by everyone.

However, some appear to oppose similar to Abdelhamid Jlassi‎ who request a to set-up a congress this year.
