Tunisia – Filling rate of dams barely exceeds 31%

The filling rate of all Tunisian dams did not surpass 31.5%, as of June 14, 2024, or 738.3 million m3, compared to 847.5 million m3 during the prior year. As a result, the water reserves of these dams registered a decrease of 12.8%, according to data recently published on the National Agricultural Observatory.

Compared to the rate documented over the last three years (974 million m3), the filling rate of dams in Tunisia has decreased by 24.2 percent.

The Observatory pointed out that there is a contrast in the filling level from one region to another, since the percentage of filling of the northern dams (which represent 97.5 percent of the water reserve available in all dams in the country) reached 37.6 percent, while the percentage of filling of dams remained stable in the Center and in Cap Bon, respectively at the level of 9.4 percent and 9.6 percent.
