The balance of the Treasury’s current account increased from 197.1 Million Dinars (MD) on November 1 to 1,250 MD on November 3, the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) said Thursday.
The BCT added that these fluctuations are periodic while denying any advance financing of the central bank to the Treasury.
Since November 1, 2021, the balance of the current account has fluctuated significantly, going from 197 MD to 1,978 MD on November 2, 2021.
This surge is due to the increase in tax revenues, which reached 1,072.4 million dinars on November 2, according to the BCT. This can also be explained by the issuance of a short-term treasury bill (13 weeks and 52 weeks) which matured on November 3.
The same source indicates that the repayment of certain domestic and external debts, the payment of salaries and retirement pensions are at the origin of these periodic fluctuations.
