On the sidelines of a press conference held today, the president of the Association of Tunisian Magistrates (ATM) Anas Hmaïdi said that the president of the republic Kais Saïed desires to get his hands on the judiciary. Hmaidi slammed the campaign of denigration and demonization carried out against the magistrates recalling that the dissolution of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) was made on the basis of an unconstitutional decree.
He clarified that Kais Saïed has repeatedly infringed the law, recollecting that Articles 24.27, 107 and 108 of the Constitution have not been respected. For Hmaïdi, the dismissal of the 57 judges is a sort of “massacre” and liquidation. Added to this, is the impossibility of challenging presidential decisions.
According to him, the list of judges who have recently been dismissed was organised in advance by Kais Saïed. Moreover, the “purge” of the judiciary was cited several times in his speeches.
