Tunisia-Foreign Minister Noureddine Erray receives call from UK Foreign Secretary of Dominic Rapp

Minister of Foreign Affairs Noureddine Erray received a phone call from Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom Dominic Rapp, centring on the Tunisia-UK friendship and collaborative relationships and the shared will to further develop them.

Noureddine Erray asserted during the talk Tunisia’s wish to extend areas of bilateral partnership with the UK.

He displayed Tunisia’s solidarity with the government and friendly British people in handling the coronavirus pandemic.

For his part, the British Foreign Secretary affirmed his country’s desire to improve the distinguished cooperative relations with Tunisia.

He stated he was looking forward to visiting Tunisia and consulting with its official’s approaches to improve the multiple existing cooperation frameworks, in the interest of the two friendly peoples.

The UK Foreign Secretary also stretched his country’s gratitude to Tunisia for the facilities it presented during the evacuation of British nationals in light of the travel measures taken to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.

The two ministers emphasised the significance of coordinating efforts bilaterally and multilaterally, to stimulate the principle of international solidarity in facing the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, in line with what was stated in the President of the Republic’s initiative to the UN.

The latter provides for adopting a different approach in dealing with the implications of this global humanitarian crisis, according to the same source.

The phone call also discussed the developments of the situation in Libya, as both sides stressed the need to “step up efforts to reach a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the crisis in this country and call on the various Libyan parties to respect the humanitarian truce.”

They agreed to continue coordination regarding the various items on the agenda of the UN Security Council, within the framework of Tunisia’s non-permanent membership in the Council for the period 2020-202
