Nabil Ammar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, engaged in a bilateral meeting with his Gambian counterpart, Mamadou Tangara, during his participation in the High-level Seminar on strengthening peace and security in Africa in Oran, Algeria, on Monday, December 18, 2023.
Mamadou Tangara chaired the seminar in his capacity as President of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union for December 2023. The meeting provided a chance to examine bilateral relations, especially in the economic cooperation sector, and explore ways to enhance collaboration across various domains.
The talks also centred on migration and consular cooperation. Minister Ammar underscored the ongoing efforts of Tunisian authorities, working in coordination with specialized international organizations, to facilitate the voluntary repatriation of Gambian irregular migrants, underlining their treatment following national laws and international obligations.
Additionally, the two ministers exchanged views on strategies to bolster security and peace in Africa, along with discussions on developments in the regional and international arenas.
