A new mechanism for restitution of “ill-gotten wealth” will be executed in France from next year, reads a press release by the French embassy in Tunisia on Friday, October 29, 2021.
“In order to complete the existing mechanisms, Law No. 2021-1031 of August 4, 2021, on programming relating to inclusive development and the battle against global inequalities has set up an innovative mechanism directed at returning these sums to the populations who have been deprived of them through cooperation and development actions ”, adds the same source.
“The restitution of funds will take the form of collaboration and development actions, however, these will not be counted as official development assistance in the declarations made by France to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) ”.
According to the same source, this new mechanism “will be implemented through a budgetary program founded in the 2022 Finance Law and will be administered by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs”.
