The French Embassy to Tunisia, on Thursday, said that Director-General of the Treasury Emmanuel Moulin visited Tunisia on January 31 at the invitation of the Tunisian authorities. He was accompanied by Director of Bilateral Affairs and Internationalisation of Enterprises Magali Cesana. «This visit is part of the regular exchanges between France and Tunisia,» the embassy said in a statement. The discussions focused exclusively on economic and financial issues and on France’s support for the reforms foreseen by Tunisia in its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The visit has caused a great deal of controversy on social media and in some media about a possible recourse by Tunisia to the Paris Club. The Paris Club is an informal group of public creditors whose role is to find coordinated and sustainable solutions to the payment difficulties of indebted countries. Finance Minister Sihem Nemsia, on Wednesday, told the media that Emmanuel Moulin visited Tunisia in his capacity as Director-General of the French Treasury and not as President of the Paris Club.
