The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) called on the Tunisian authorities to suspend all partnership processes with European countries that do not respect human rights, following the release of a video showing an Italian police officer at the Migrant Detention Centre in Agrigento forcing an irregular Tunisian migrant to slap another Tunisian minor migrant.
The FTDES said in a press release this incident is one of a set of violations targeting Tunisian irregular migrants in Europe (Spain and Italy…), indicating that the worst thing is to commit such violations in institutions supposed to protect migrants.
The organisation pointed out its willingness to provide legal assistance to any effort to bring such violations before the Italian courts or the European Court of Human Rights.
The FTDES reiterated its call for the release of all Tunisian irregular migrants held in detention centres in Italy and Spain, condemning the difficult humanitarian conditions in which dozens of Tunisians are currently held.
The same source states that it is cooperating with its partners in Italian civil society to develop migration policies that respect human rights and guarantee equality, peace and solidarity in the Mediterranean.
