Tunisia-Fundamental priorities in the next cabinet programme

PM-designate Elyes Fakhfakh presented to political parties the background document of the government’s programme. Parties met to officially address the document and add additional terms or modify other terms.

Battling against crime, increasing citizens’ purchasing power and controlling speculation and smuggling are among the priorities of the following government set forward by PM Fakhfakh.In the submit document, the PM stressed the necessity to adopt necessary actions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), execute the anti-corruption national strategy, foster necessary financial resources for 2020 and settle the crisis of the Gafsa mining basin.

As to the mid-term priorities, Fakhfakh requests for the formulation of a program for strategic investments securing economic and social transition. This could be achieved, according to him, through a participatory method and a strategic concept of reformation intending to reformulate the growth model.

The government will launch a series of projects in the fields of decentralisation, education, health, agriculture as well as digital and energy sectors.Devices will be placed in place to accomplish these goals. A participatory plan will be utilised in mapping out public policies, strengthening OpenGov and strengthening control and accountability mechanisms.

In this document, Fakhfakh requested on the prospective coalition government to push the reform of the parliament’s internal rules, concerning the performance of the government, by intensifying the oversight role of the assembly.

The proposed government will be formed of 28 members (27 ministers and one Secretary of State), according to the document.
