Tunisia-Gaddes: Personal data protection has deteriorated

The situation of personal data protection in Tunisia does not bode well and has seen a remarkable deterioration in recent years, said president of the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data (INPDP), Chaouki Gaddès.

Speaking to TAP Wednesday, Gaddes highlighted the lack of any will to respect the inviolability of personal data, particularly because of the violations committed by public institutions in this regard.

He said that the INPDP is organising a press conference next Saturday, on the international day of personal data protection, to reveal the violations recorded and assess the situation of personal data in Tunisia.

The INPDP has repeatedly called for the implementation of digital projects that will make it possible to improve the efficiency of public structures in relation to the protection of personal data.

These include projects relating to the citizen’s unique identifier, biometric identity documents and the filing of administrative documents.

The body also called for the appointment of personal data protection officers in all public institutions.
