Tunisia-Gigantic fire factory in Ben Arous: the union blames the authorities

A factory located in Ben Arous was ravaged yesterday by a gigantic fire. As such, the general secretary of the union reporting to the UGTT Houssem Bedhiafi declared that the factory was almost entirely burned down, adding that all the equipment had been damaged.

As it was a public holiday, workers were not there, hence, there were no fatalities, ”he stated. Bedhiafi said the factory broke out at 4:15 p.m., however, Civil Protection agents came an hour later, making it hard to control the blaze. He further revealed that the blaze had not been brought under control.

“The late intervention of Civil Protection agents and the unavailability of the required equipment aggravated the damage,” he explained.

The speaker also said that the causes of the fire have not yet been reported, blaming, at the same time, the authorities who have not set in place the required mechanisms to protect the factories located in the area.

He likewise highlighted the 1,500 workers operating in the factory who will be imperilled with unemployment following this incident.
