Tunisia- Government estimates economic growth of 4% for 2021

For the year 2021, the government projects a positive growth of 4%.

The figure was put forward this Tuesday, November 24, 2020, by the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Investment Support, Ali Kooli during a hearing session held by the Finance Committee at the parliament.

According to Mr Kooli, this rate makes sense, particularly after the decline registered in 2020, in addition to the anticipated decrease in the impact of the pandemic, improved production of phosphates, oil and tourism.

The growth of the Tunisian economy has contracted, during the first nine months of 2020, by 10%, opposed to the same period in 2019.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the Tunisian economy reported this result after the drop in GDP during the third quarter of 2020, by 6%, compared to the third quarter of 2019.

In the same context, the central bank had indicated that the Tunisian economy registered a contraction of 11.9%, in constant terms, during the first half of the current year compared to the same period of the previous year.

The BCT recalled that the Tunisian economy experienced a sharp contraction of around 21.6% during the second quarter of 2020 against an increase of 2.1% during the same period of the previous year.

This unprecedented decline is attributable, essentially, to the drop in production in all sectors, except the agricultural sector.
