Tunisia-Governors’ salary increase: Mechichi explains his decision

On an official visit to the governorate of Jendouba, the head of government Hichem Mechich returned to his controversial decision on a significant salary increase for the benefit of the governors.

Speaking to the media, he hinted that this is the first of its kind in 10 years, insisting the position needs to regain its attractiveness.

“The post of governor must appeal to skills and must regain its appeal, because governors represent the state in their regions,” he insisted.

The head of government Hichem Mechichi decided to improve considerably the social situation of the governors by granting them a significant salary increase as well as new privileges.

Indeed, the head of government issued a decision, published in the JORT, to increase the salaries of governors by a thousand dinars, which now reach 3,500 dinars per month (net salary).

The head of government also decided to grant new privileges to governors such as a travel bonus of 50 dinars daily, an equipped company house, two employees, two company cars and two drivers, as well as vouchers of 500 L of gasoline monthly.
