A patient infected with COVID-19 in respiratory distress had been taken to the Habib Bourguiba Teaching Hospital in Sfax, after the outcry of the Sadok Mokaddem regional hospital in Djerba.

Commenting on the accident, health minster Abdelatif Mekki stressed that an inquiry has been opened regarding the subject matter. In a statement to Shems FM, he disclosed that Medinine regional health director informed him that the hospital had only one resuscitating doctor who has been working non-stop, hence he will be resting after one week of work, as a result, they informed Djerba the impossibility to admit the patient.
