Prominent politician and former Minister of the Interior under President Habib Bourguiba reign, Tahar Belkhodja graciously granted a prolonged interview to Tunisie Numérique where he narrated stages in the fascinating history of Tunisia. Mr Belkhodja spoke of several symbolic figures that marked the history of Tunisia like Tunisian politician Abdelaziz Thâalbi.
“Abdelaziz Thâalbi is a Tunisian politician. His father was from Algeria and one of the marabouts of Algiers. He arrived in Tunisia following the arrest of Prince Abdelkader El Djezairi,”, said Mr Belkhoudja.
“Abdelaziz Thâalbi lived in Tunisia and cordially received his academic education at the University of Ez-Zitouna. In 1920, he established the Destour party. However, in 1934 Bourguiba and his supporters substituted the party name to Neo-Destour, at Ksar Hellal Congress, hence it was the beginning of Destour party,” revealed Mr Belkhodja.
