The Presidency of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) called on heads of parliamentary groups to make the national interest prevail and to avoid political infighting and self-interest.
In a press release issued at the end of Friday’s adjournment of the plenary session because of the verbal altercations that took place between the deputies, the HPR presidency urged deputies to show responsibility, especially at this critical time, in order to honour the parliament’s commitments to Tunisians. The same source stresses the need to put an end to altercations and all types of verbal violence, as well as the need to show restraint and reason and to ensure a minimum of respect during parliamentary proceedings. Friday’s plenary session devoted to the examination of the report of the Regional Development Committee on the “conditions and Development Projects in all Regions of the country” was suspended then postponed to a later date due to verbal altercations between MP Salem Labiadh (Democratic Bloc) and Seif Eddine Makhlouf (El Karama Coalition) as the presidential security prevented one of the El Karama Coalition’s founders Hafedh Barhoumi from entering the HPR. The HPR Presidency expressed regret for the adjournment of the meeting and for having missed the opportunity to discuss the regional development file, recommending that a new date for resuming the meeting be set sooner.
