An irregular migration boat sank on Friday at midnight off Thyna’s coast in Ras Tabia region in Sfax governorate leaving 1 dead, 6 missing and 13 survivors of which all were Tunisians, the TAP reported.
In a statement to the TAP, Regional Civil Protection Director in Sfax Colonel Mourad Mechri said that the boat has overturned.
Eleven passengers were saved by the Maritime Guard and Civil Protection units, while the boat’s captain and his assistant escaped.
An inquiry was launched to discover the exact number of passengers, missing people and the accident’s circumstances.
