A source from the National Guard revealed that, as part of the combat against the phenomenon of irregular migration, the floating and continental naval units of the Central Naval Guard district were able, on April 4, 5 and 6 2024, to foil 117 illegal migration attempts towards the Italian coast, and intercept and save 4,328 migrants of African and Tunisian nationalities, most of them foreign nationals.
The same source added that 109 marine engines were seized, in addition to the retrieval of around 12 corpses.
The public prosecutor was also notified and authorized the necessary legal measures to be taken.
