Tunisia-Importation of expired food products: Commercial Office denies

A Controversy is raging over the importation of expired food products and the detection of suspected corruption.

The Agriculture Committee at the House of People’s Representatives has decided to take legal action after a sudden visit to Commercial Office stores in Rades were members of the said committee remarked that vital amounts of food are expired.

This is not the point of view of the Office of Commerce, which answered these accusations. Elyes Ben Ameur, CEO of the Tunisian Trade Office, has, in fact, refuted any suspicion of corruption in the importation quantities of coffee, rice and which would be outdated.

He assured that humidity affected a large quantity of these products during their shipment to Tunisia, Mosaique FM reports.

However, According to the chairman of the Parliament’s agriculture committee, Moez Belhadj Rhouma, large quantities of food products are infested with termites and the milk has expired.

Hayet Omri, a member of the =commission, announced that justice has been seized for the existence of suspicions of corruption during the importation of food products whose purchases do not comply with the rules in force.
