The National Authority for the Prevention of Torture – INPT, confirmed having conducted “an unexpected joint visit the day before Monday, January 03, 2022, to the cardiology department of the Habib Bougatfa hospital in Bizerte, after the validation of the transfer of Noureddine Bhiri in the said health establishment.
The INPT added in a press release issued on Tuesday, January 04, 2022, that the joint visiting team was capable of “meeting the deputy, confined since Friday, December 31, 2021 in an unknown location, after being stopped from entering the hospital by the security authorities for a period of 20 minutes, on the pretext that the visit ‘was carried out at an improper time’.
Emphasizing that a detailed report of the visit will be published after having addressed the required recommendations to the Ministry of the Interior and awaiting its reply within the allotted time. According to the same source, the INPT sent a letter to the Interior Ministry, after receiving two notifications on Friday morning, December 31, 2021, concerning the detention of Noureddine and Fathi Beldi by an unknown security party in an unknown location. Nevertheless, the INPT has received no response so far, particularly regarding the conditions of detention of those concerned.
