The Minister of State Property and Land Affairs, Wajdi Hedhili, reported on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, establishing 13 inspection teams to monitor the use of government vehicles across Tunisia.
These teams, consisting of members from the Ministries of State Property and the Interior, supervise administrative vehicles within designated geographic areas. The initiative aims to limit misuse and ensure that vehicles are used according to regulations.
In terms of penalties, the minister underscored that Decree No. 647 of 2017 provides for financial fines and administrative sanctions in cases of improper use of government vehicles.
The fine has been increased to 60 dinars since 2021, highlighting the government’s commitment to discouraging non-compliant behaviour.
To improve tracking and enforcement, the ministry has furthermore introduced electronic surveillance technologies, including GPS. These systems permit for more effective management of vehicle usage and fuel consumption.
Additionally, an updated guide to usage procedures has been developed to clarify and strengthen the rules governing these vehicles.
