Tunisia-ISIE publishes timetable for July 25 referendum

The Independent Higher Authority for Elections (ISIE) issued a decision on Wednesday, dated June 3, 2022, relating to the timetable for the referendum of July 25, 2022. According to this decision, the timetable for the referendum is set between May 3 and August 28, 2022, the date of the proclamation of the definitive results of the referendum on the draft of the new Constitution of the Republic of Tunisia.

Article 3 of the decision provides that the ISIE launches, from May 29 to Tuesday, June 14, the voluntary voter registration campaign before proceeding, on June 15, 2022, with the automated registration of all potential voters who are not enlisted in the electoral register, in accordance with article 4. Voters will be able, from Thursday, June 16 to Tuesday, July 12, 2022, to update the data relating to the voting centres, without evidence of address.

According to the schedule, the preliminary list of voters will be made available to the public, from Wednesday, June 22 to Monday June 27. The following two days (June 28 and 29) will be dedicated to filing appeals regarding the lists of voters. The Elections Authority will then decide, on June 30 and July 1, on the appeals and will issue its decisions within a period not surpassing July 2. The final lists of voters will be published before July 13.

According to the decision of the ISIE, applications for the awarding accreditations to partake in the referendum campaign will be presented between June 21 at 8 a.m. and June 27 at 6 p.m. The ISIE will publish, before June 28, on its premises and on its electronic site, the list of participants in the referendum campaign.

Under Article 11 of the ISIE decision, the referendum campaign should begin on Sunday, July 3 and will continue until July 23. Abroad, the campaign will occur from July 1 to 21. Voting starts on Saturday, July 23 for Tunisians abroad and finishes on the 25th of the same month, the voting date for the rest of Tunisians.

The preliminary results of the referendum must be reported from July 26 to 28, 2022. As for the final results, they will be declared on August 28, 2022, after the examination of appeals between July 30 and August 27, 2022.
